Dispensing Oil and Vinegar on the table has been cumbersome over the years. Many different styles of cruets have been made for just this one need. Proper storage of olive oil is necessary for the quality and taste to remain pristine and the nutritional benefits to remain intact.

Over the centuries, oil and vinegar cruets have been made out of numerous materials. We now know the best containers for storing olive oil and vinegar are glass, ceramic, or porcelain. It is important to know plastic containers are not ideal for either condiment.

To keep fresh flavor longer, olive oil and aged vinegar should be stored in a cool place away from sunlight. The most optimum would be in a glass container. Oil or vinegar should not be stored in a plastic container because they may absorb PVC’s from the plastic.

Glass oil and vinegar cruets are exceptional gift items. They function as an optimal way to properly store your olive oil and vinegar, and are becoming increasingly popular.
Today, gourmet culinary utensils and products are sought after for practicality and novelty. A gourmet gift is usually one of value and quality, these being essential for the perfect gift idea.

Cruets.com offers hand blown glass cruets from Europe that have glass within glass containers. One inner vessel holds the vinegar, and the outer vessel stores the olive oil. Each glass cruet has two pour spouts on the same oil and vinegar dispenser. The hand blown glass containers are elegant in style and offer a sophisticated way to offer oil and vinegar on the table, from the same decanter.

The Grape Cruet, which features a hand blown glass grape cluster vessel, inside a glass cylindrical body, is widely popular for gourmet kitchens. The grape cruet is about the diameter of a wine bottle and is easily used with one hand. You will see them more and more on fine dining tables of some of America’s best gourmet restaurants.

Oil and vinegar stored in the Grape cruet, will keep a long time. The olive oil will keep over a year as long as tight fitting corks are used. Keeping both oil and vinegar air tight is crucial to retaining flavor.

The Grape Cruet has a stunning design that is magnified when the olive oil is filled inside the glass. The glass artistry is tasteful and makes an elegant statement on any dinning table. The perfect gift for the holidays, the Grape Cruet features:

Heat-resistant technical grade European glass

Beautifully unique hand blown glass design.

Two functional glass within glass vessels to separate your oil and vinegar.

Made to be durable dispensing olive oil and aged balsamic vinegar.

Airtight custom bartop cork stoppers for both spouts.

European craftsmanship and quality.

The Grape oil and vinegar Cruet is one of the most innovative and
functional decanters you will find for dining. Its remarkable design is sure to catch the eye of all of your guests while making a tasteful and elegant statement on your
dinning table.

A gourmet gift set featuring a grape cruet with imported olive oil and Modena balsamic vinegar makes an ideal gift for any occasion including housewarmings and holidays. Plus, it’s an interesting conversation piece that will talked about over and over.

Health insurance coverage is one of the most expensive investments you can make, but it is also one of the most important. Living without health insurance is dangerous financially, because all it will take is one surgery or serious illness to bankrupt you. However, if you are smart, you can save money on your health insurance with these tips.

First, avoid the temptation to go for the plan with the lowest premium. Remember, if your coverage is significantly different, you will end up paying for the lower premium through increased out of pocket costs. Often these low premium policies leave out important coverage options, such as maternity or long-term illness care.

Even though it is difficult to understand these insurance policies, you need to compare your options. Compare the coverage, out of pocket estimates, limits, and premium amount. Get an overall picture of the costs of the policy. Remember to look for those optional coverage options that your family needs.

If you need to save money, be willing to limit your choices of doctors. Plans with strict networks usually have lower costs. If you are absolutely set on having access to a certain doctor, you will pay more, unless you are lucky enough to find an affordable policy that has that doctor on it. Keep in mind that you do have the right to check the doctors in the network before you sign up for the policy, so do your homework to make sure you will be happy with the coverage offered.

If you do need to lower the cost of the premium on the insurance you have chosen, consider increasing your deductible. If you have a high deductible policy, you can use a health savings account to save the money to cover your deductible while getting great tax benefits. This will mean you will be covered if you face a serious health problem. Remember to plan ahead for your out of pocket costs if you choose to lower your cost in this way.

As you look for ways to reduce your coverage, do not lower the maximum payout amount. Remember, a catastrophic illness or injury could potentially cost millions. Make sure you have a policy with an adequate maximum payout.

Insurance is expensive, but it is one expense you really shouldn’t try living without. Use these tips to help you save money, but make sure you are covered. You never know what health problem you will face in the future!

When it comes to fetal development brain health, did you know that there are measures you can take to improve it? This article discusses what taking a simple fish oil supplement can do for you’re baby’s fetal brain development.

Until just recently, not many people (and even doctors for that matter) understood the benefits of taking an omega-3 fish oil supplement during pregnancy. But now, these supplements are practically the new folic acid!

As the fetal brain development of your baby takes place, the fetus requires a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids (particularly DHA omega-3).

DHA omega-3 is a key essential nutrient that cannot be created by the human body. Since this is true, there’s really nowhere to get adequate amount of it besides taking what the mother already has stored in her brain.

But by taking a quality fish oil supplement, fetal brain development can take place much more efficiently and easier (and without stealing any of the DHA that’s in mom’s brain!)

Large amounts of DHA are accumulated during fetal and infant development, and even through the first year of the baby’s life. It’s essential for:

*Developing the nervous system
*Promoting neurological progression and health
*Support if retinal development and enhanced visual function

In fact, studies have shown that a baby born to a mother with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids in her system will more likely have advanced cognitive function and increased attention span (which tells a lot about a child’s intelligence early in life).

The question as to whether or not you should take an omega-3 fish oil supplement is easy; but finding a brand that is safe and of high-quality is a bit harder.

Home health care technology can assist baby boomers to successfully age in place by promoting independence and offering assistance when it is needed.

Boomers have made it perfectly clear they want to remain in their communities and stay in their homes for as long as possible. The results of a survey conducted by The American Association of Retired Persons of September 2008 asked baby boomers if they agreed with this statement:

“What I’d really like to do is stay in my current residence for as long as possible.” The results were:

80% of those between the age of 55-64 agree 88% believe that it is likely that they can 75% of those that responded between the mid 50′s and mid 60″s believe some aspect of their home will challenge their ability to do so (stairs being the biggest obstacle with 24%).

So here is the surprising, yet disturbing news. Clarity conducted a research study that studied two groups: Baby Boomers between the ages of 43 – 61, with aging parents and seniors, age 65 plus, and still living independently, at home.

The results of this study:

53% of the aging seniors in the study were concerned about their ability (despite their desire) to remain in their own homes. They cited concerns about health, memory and the ability to drive. When asked about fears, seniors 26% ranked loss of independence. The highest,13%, feared moving into a nursing home and 3%, had a fear of death. 51% of boomers believe there is technology to help their parents. But only 14% have looked for any home health care technology.

Aging seniors and baby boomers rank moving into a nursing home higher than they fear death.

Baby boomers require taking action to successfully age in place and home health care technology is there to support them and their aging loved one. It is important to be proactive and not reactive to researching home health care technology.

Research shows that most home health care technology is initiated in the home, only after an incident occurs. This incident, with an aging senior often results in an unnecessary hospitalization. Most accidents, that happen at home, can be prevented. The technology is available to maintain independence, prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and improve the quality of life of our aging seniors.

Home health care technology is available to aging baby boomers now. In order to successfully age in place requires planning. Many boomers have aging loved ones that they are presently taking care of and providing assistance in the home. It will not be long and the boomers will require care and have the same goals: aging in place. Boomers, take action now to make your goal of aging in place a reality.

If you have a job, kids and a house to run, chances are you haven’t got time for exercise. You know you need to increase your activity level if you’re going to shift the weight, but you can’t find the time in your busy schedule and when you do find yourself with a bit of time off, exercise is the last thing you want to do.

However, it is possible to make exercise fun and to incorporate it into your daily routine in a very positive way. To do this, make exercise something that you do with your kids. This will not only help your weight loss program, but will give you quality time with your children and help them to develop the habit of being more active. Kids these days spend a lot of time in front of computer or TV screens and run the risk of becoming overweight or even obese – and overweight kids and teenagers have an increased risk of becoming overweight or obese adults.

Focus on the fun aspect of exercise by finding something all of you can enjoy. This could mean kicking a ball around the park after school or on weekends, joining a martial arts class or doing some form of aerobic exercise to a DVD at home. There is a huge variety of different types of exercise available on DVD or video and it should be possible to find things that everyone can enjoy. Alternate the routines, say kickboxing once a week and pilates on another day, to allow for everyone’s taste and to prevent boredom creeping in. Try to come up with several alternatives and make sure you have outdoor and indoor activities on the list. The more ideas you can up with, the better, as this will give you more opportunities to fit things in to a busy day, for example, if you planned to go out to the swimming pool in the evening, but something comes up, substitute the swimming session with dancing to the kids’ favourite CDs before bedtime.

Try to become less dependent on your car or public transport and encourage the kids to do the same. This has the added benefit of being good for the environment as well. Most young people are aware of climate change and like to be involved in doing something which will help reduce it. The earlier you can teach your children how to adopt a healthy lifestyle the better. It’s much better to prevent obesity and the side effects than it is to deal with them once they have become serious problems. Think of the heartache you could prevent for your children, not only in terms of ill-health but also lack of self-esteem and bullying which is often directed at children who are overweight.

So, no more excuses, get your own exercise routine on track and create a better future for your kids at the same time.

It’s always the first, unexpected injury with a child that teaches us that we need to be at least somewhat prepared for the next injury. I’ll never forget the time my toddler ran into the countertop corner on a Sunday afternoon that resulted in an emergency room visit to treat a concussion, or the time my other toddler decided to spin in circles as kids like to do (the type of movement that makes us adults nauseous) only to end up spinning out of control and plunging into a metal bench – our first plastic surgery experience to repair a tear from a lip to a nose.

So, what can you expect? You can expect that unexpected things will happen. What can you do? Well, not much to prevent these things from happening, but you can take measures to help you maintain your composure during these times of chaos as follows:

1. Locate the closest emergency room. Know the following and know how to get to each one: (1) your closest emergency room, (2) your closest urgent care center and (3) your family doctor’s office. If you’ve recently relocated to a new area, ask neighbors for information and referrals.

2. Store your family’s healthcare information in one spot. With multiple children and us aging adults, it becomes paramount to become somewhat organized in respect to keeping the family’s healthcare information together. How you choose to handle this depends on your style. Following are ideas I’ve heard of from friends ranging from traditionalists to techies to the annoying ultra-prepared: (1) Organize a binder with your health records for each family member, (2) Store health information online with a secure, online health portfolio, or (3) Create an index card or carry a portable USB drive in your purse that contains a listing of relevant records such as immunizations, allergies and medications.

3. Familiarize yourself with your insurance. OK, so no one has time to read an insurance booklet from beginning to end (except perhaps the aforementioned annoying ultra-prepared folks), but it helps to peruse it enough to understand the highlights. Following are a few key questions to answer: (1) Is the doctor I wish to see on my plan or will I need to pay extra to go outside of my plan?; (2) What is my co-pay for a well visit versus a specialist visit versus urgent care?; and (3) How much is my deductible?

4. Attempt to schedule appointments early. Doctors’ offices book appointments for well visits months in advance. Following are a few tips for contending with this: (1) Schedule your children with back-to-back appointments or ask if they can be seen at the same time, (2) Mark appointments down on your calendar as soon as possible because the little cards the office gives you may be found crumpled up at the bottom of your purse after you’ve missed the appointments, and (3) If you must, reschedule appointments as soon as possible.

5. Remember yourself. Having children shifts the focus from “you” to “them.” As such, it is important to not only remember their crucial appointments but to remember yours as well. Remember that they are reliant on you and, as such, it is important to take care of yourself. Be sure to stay on top of your annual well visits, pap tests and mammograms. Following are a few scheduling tips: (1) Schedule your appointments when your kids are in school or when your husband or babysitter can cover for you (managing a toddler during a pap test is something less than desired) and (2) Attempt to exercise, eat healthy and actually sleep!

We grew up getting sound advice from our mothers about our health and how to maintain it although we probably haven’t thought about it that way. We probably discarded it with some of her other advice that we considered “uncool.” But let’s take a look a a few of her admonitions.

Eat your veggies. Did you ever have to sit at the table until you ate all your green beans or your peas? Mom was right You need them. According to the Harvard School of Public Health the health benefits of a diet rich in vegetables and fruits include: Lower blood pressure; reduced risk of heart disease, stroke, and probably some cancers; lower risk of eye and digestive problems; and a mellowing effect on blood sugar that can help keep appetite in check. SourceWhen you’re young you don’t consider any of these as problems that have anything to do with you but there will come a time when you will wish you had listened to mom and finished those veggies and asked for seconds.

Turn the TV off now – You need your sleep. Well, she was right again. The facts are that:

Sleep makes you smarter. When you sleep, your brain gets a chance to digest and process information from the previous day. Missing this processing time can prove to be costly. Sleep Boosts the Immune System. If you get the right amount of sleep per night (7-8 hours), your body will be able to fight off infections and diseases much easier. Sleep Improves Appearance. Skin, muscle, blood, and brain regeneration happens during the sleep cycles. If you deprive your body of this necessary regeneration, your skin will begin to age and under your eyes will appear dark circles

You kids go out and play so you can get some fresh air and sunshine. Do I have to say it? She was right once more.

Sunshine is the best source for vitamin D. And vitamin D is essential for bone density Sunshine reduces depression by stimulating the production of endorphins, Sunshine dilates the blood vessels and increases circulation and better circulation means better healing of skin diseases and conditions. This also lowers the blood pressure. Sunshine increases the production of red and white blood cells and therefore strengthens the immune system Being out in the fresh air and sunshine creates a more active lifestyle. This allows you to maintain a consistent weight, and all those other great benefits that exercise brings with it.

Drink plenty of water. “No sodas for you unless you drink some water first, young man,” and she was right. When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, it’s fluids are perfectly balanced. When this happens, you have reached the “breakthrough point.” What does this mean? This means that:

Endocrine-gland function improves. Fluid retention is alleviated as stored water is lost. More fat is used as fuel because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat. Natural thirst returns. There is a loss of hunger almost overnight. It helps maintain muscle tone and prevents sagging skin Helps prevent constipation

Mom gave a lot more advice than these four things like put a sweater on or you’ll catch a cold and wear your galoshes so your feet don’t get wet or you’ll die of pneumonia. But these four are the “biggies” and are based on solid scientific information that Mom may not have known but she was absolutely correct. (maybe not about the galoshes).

So maybe, in honor of Mom, you should eat some veggies and drink some water while you’re outside in the fresh air and sunshine and then come in and take a nap.

As children we always wanted to “play” and the farthest thing from our minds was food. My mom had to yell for me 4 or 5 times to get me to come and eat. My mom like all moms had a plan. When you finally did come down to eat, she made sure you were nice and full so you can grow up to be “healthy and strong.” Moms would use many tricks to get us to eat like saying, “It’s impolite to not finish your food” or “do you not like my cooking?” Some moms even use plain old force, like “sit back down and finish your food!” My wonderful mom used guilt as her weapon of choice. “There are starving kids in Africa” she would always tell me. And as a child, what can you say to something like that? I would just put my head down and continue to shovel away. I don’t blame my mom or moms around the country for making us overweight, but overeating has been embedded into us from childhood so here are some tips to help us unlearn what all moms have taught us.

11 Ways to Help you eat Less.

Drink a glass of water. Drink a full glass of water and wait 20 minutes before you eat. The brain takes about 20 minutes to register that you have put something in your stomach. The glass of water will not only fill your stomach up so you won’t feel as hungry, but many experts believe the brain cannot distinguish between feeling hungry and feeling thirsty. I know what you’re thinking. I’m not thirsty, I want food! Just try it. Trust me, it works. Eat slower. A number of studies have shown that just by eating slower you will consume fewer calories. It takes our brain about 20 minutes to register that we are full and by consuming our food faster, we continue past the point of realizing that we have eaten enough. Eat a Piece of Fruit. If you are famished, eat a piece of fruit and wait 20 minutes. The piece of fruit won’t stop you from eating, but it has water and fiber to help curb your hunger so you won’t gorge yourself when you finally get to eat. This will help you follow step #2. Fill your plate up with veggies. You want to “Eat from the Rainbow.” Pick vibrant colors veggies as they are loaded with nutrients and are low in calories that will “fool” your mind into thinking it is eating a lot by take up a lot of space on your plate. When you go to Souplantation, doesn’t it look like you’re eating a ton of food? Eat lean protein. Lean Protein such as chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, low fat cottage cheese, soy and lean cuts of beef give you a more “satisfied” feeling so you don’t always feel hungry. Oh and it helps you build that ever so important muscle. Eat More Snacks. Remember when mom always said “Stop snacking, you’re going ruin your appetite.” She was right; you are going to ruin your appetite and that’s exactly what we want. You should be snacking throughout the day. This allows your blood sugar levels to never dip too low, which can cause you to overeat. Your snacks should consist mostly of vegetables, fruits and nuts as these will not spike your insulin levels. Replace your unhealthy snacks with veggies, fruit and nuts. Keep fruits, vegetables and nuts cut, cracked or peeled and ready to go at home or work. This is using the concept of “path of least resistance” to your advantage. If you have healthy snacks within your reach, you WILL eat them. Don’t eat and watch TV. The TV keeps your mind distracted so you just go through the motion of putting whatever is in front of you in your mouth without realizing you ate too much. This one was very difficult for me at first until I realized that this was the perfect opportunity to strike up a conversation with a friend or significant other. Use smaller plates. Like mom always said, “Finish your plate.” We have been programmed to eat everything on our plate and smaller plates mean smaller meals. NO SECONDS! Eat veggies and fruits first. They are low in calories, filled with water and packed with colon friendly fiber. Fiber is filling so it allows your mind time to catch up to your stomach. If you eat a salad first make sure to use a low calorie dressing OR if you like the full calorie dressing, get the dressing on the side and dip your fork, that way you get the full flavor of the dressing on your tongue and you end up eat half as much dressing. Eat your Calories, don’t drink them. There are many hidden calories in your favorite beverage. Limit your favorite beverage to once or twice a day as it is very easy to drink an additional 200- 400 calories a day in liquids. That equates to an additional 30-60 minutes on the treadmill just to burn off what you drink!

Diet and exercise are important for every one, no matter what their age or gender, including pregnant women. You heard me right pregnant women need to exercise just as much as anyone else. A few questions might arise when it comes to pregnant women exercising, so we will try to go over them here.

Most pregnant women wonder about the length of time and intensity of exercise they should perform. Most people who do not know about the importance of exercise usually tell you to relax, rest and don’t do anything.

But the truth is, that women who exercise during pregnancy often have an easier time when it comes to labor and delivery of that baby. You do need to be careful and not over exercise.
-	When you are following your exercise routine, you need to pay attention to your breathing. If at any time you feel breathless, and can’t talk, then you need to slow down. You should only be exercising moderately.

-	If you experience any bleeding, back pain then you need to see your doctor or midwife as soon as possible. This does not generally happen. So don’t use this as an excuse to avoid exercising when you are pregnant.

Pregnancy and the Advantages of Exercising

There are actually a number of advantages in exercising while pregnant that far outweigh those of not exercising. Women that are more active during their pregnancy suffer less from insomnia, and being uncomfortable. They feel less stressed and anxious over the pregnancy. Another advantage is that because endorphins are being released, pregnant women have a general feeling of well being.

On the other hand women that don’t exercise have problems with carrying the baby, feel more fatigued, gain more weight and are in overall worse health. They have a higher risk of pregnancy complications.

These complications can include back pain, muscle pain, high blood pressure, varicose veins, and other complications associated with pregnancy.

How is the Baby Affected by the Mother’s Exercising?

In the past there have been many wives tales that refer to the baby’s health being affected by an exercising mother. In reality babies that are born to healthy active mothers are more likely to be healthier, fitter and leaner than others.
